After 3 weeks of things going very well, the past couple of days Julie has had a number of smaller negative issues. She has had some inexplicable bleeding, leaking of fluid has returned in small amounts, she felt her abdomen contracting more then before, and this morning she experienced serious pain in her lower abdomen. All of those combined led us to take the precautionary step of readmitting her into the hospital today. This was a good choice.
After getting checked into her room and having her reunion with all of her nurse friends from her previous visit, she has been monitored and the doctor believes they know what this new problem is. It is called placental abruption (click on the link for more info) and it has to do with the placenta separating from the lining of the uterine wall. This tearing caused blood, allows fluid to leak, and will cause significant pain. All three of these symptoms were present the past couple of days.
So this evening Julie is resting back at Mercy Hospital, the children are resting peacefully at home, and we are back to one day at a time. The odds of premature birth have increased as this new issue is more likely to lead to an emergency c-section but we are not going to presume upon tomorrow. For now we have a healthy and vibrant child who is 28 weeks along and beginning its 29th week tomorrow. If you remember four weeks ago when this all first started, we asked for prayer to make it to our first goal, 28 weeks. We are there and we thank God for this gift. Also, we thank God that Julie was able to spend three weeks at home rather than in the hospital. That was a gift to all of us and we are deeply grateful.
For those of you who initially signed up to help but felt your assistance less necessary with our miraculous improvement these past three weeks...your opportunity has returned. :-) Julie, myself, our family, are all so deeply grateful to family, friends, and Rooftoppers who continue to come alongside us. Thank you for your continued prayer and support.
