Our First Hospital Visit: Morning of Day 2

This morning after preparing breakfast, getting the house cleaned up, getting children dressed, helping them do their chores, and trying to take care of my own stuff...we finally got out of the house for a hospital visit around 10am.  It was great to see Julie but as I expected, 5 young children pouring into a small hospital room with a Mother who can't move was not as "romantic" or "nostalgic" as either Julie or I were thinking.  Nothing like a dose of child reality to help keep ones feet planted on the ground.  We had a good visit as I took a couple kids at a time down the hall for a walk so Julie could try to get some better 1 on 2 time with each of them.  Julie made the brilliant observation that we would try to talk later on the phone.

We left about lunch time and when we got home I got a call from Julie.  Evidently someone bumped her IV and the fluid began leaking into her arm.  After a while her arm swelled up and they had to reinsert the IV which was a laborious task yesterday.  (She doesn't have many good veins in convenient places for the IV.)

We heard good news from the doctor who said that most people who break their water will go into labor in the next 48 hours.  We are at the 34 hour point and no labor so please keep praying.

We had a good night sleep here at the Zilkie Ranch, except that the early sunrise had EVERY child up before 6am.  This was not my plan for how to spend the morning.  (Do you mother's not love my experiencing the daily occurrences in your lives and being surprised by them?)

Our first dinner has arrived and I want to thank all of you Rooftoppers who have stepped up to help out with dinner.  Anything other than "root vegetables" (potatoes are fine) is a winner in this household. :-)  However, if you do happen to bring root vegetables, Julie has done well to train the children to enjoy them. I am the last holdout with seasonal vegetable cooking and am still holding strong!!!

Love reading the updates and learning how God is working! YES!! I love hearing that dads are overwhelmed with all that moms do! I'm sure when Julie reads this she will have a small laugh too. We are right down the road if you need us. (Although I am recovering from the summer flu! Ew) We will work through Rachel and the calendar to help your family!
